It was 2008 at Luis & Anne’s wedding when I met Kate for the first time. She saw their engagement session images and she came over to me and told me: “When the day will come and I get married, you will be my photographer”….few years passed by, and I have been photographing a quite few of Kate’s family and friend’s weddings, they became my extended family and I am grateful to have met them. When I got the news that it was her turn to be a bride, I was so excited, I could hardly contain myself.

Why I was so excited you might ask internet? Because I am in love with Kate and Jamar’s love story! This couple has a LONG history together, as almost 20 years long that is.

These two met in high school,  and here is Jamar’s perspective of how they met:

It was the fall of 1994, homecoming weekend was fast approaching. After the high school football game, everyone went to the diner to grab a bite to eat. We were so loud and rowdy, we thought we would get kicked out. Me and my boys were sitting at a table discussing the game and the big win, and suddenly, I see an Asian girl walk in with long shiny black hair. I never saw her before, and I knew everyone that was there.  She looked intrigued – as if she was searching for someone. Her eyes met with mine and I quickly look away. I didn’t want her to notice I was eyeing her.  As she approaches the table where I was sitting, she stops. My heart was beating fast. “Hey! How are you? Good game tonight!” as she gives a hug to a boy sitting at the table next to us.  I look up, and a sigh of relief came over me.  Don’t make eye contact, my inner voice says to me.  I was too embarrassed.  As she made her rounds to say hi to her friends, I watched her intently and inside I knew I had to meet her. She was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.   As she was leaving, she gave a hug to one of girls I knew.  Great!  I’ll talk to her and find out who she is.  As I approach my friend, I started to ask her the question.  “Who was that girl you just hugged and said bye to?”  My friend says “Oh that’s my home girl, Kate. She goes to my school. We’re attending the homecoming dance tomorrow.”  I proceeded to do the inevitable and tell my friend that I was interested in meeting her.  A week later, my friend had planned a meet and greet between me and Kate.  We met at Kate’s school. She stayed after classes had ended to watch her brother’s  soccer game. As I drive up the school driveway, I had butterflies in my stomach. I was nervous, yet excited to finally meet her.  I was driving my Ford blue probe at the time and as soon as she spotted me driving up, she ran inside the school building. Oh no! Does she not want to meet me? My thoughts were in a flurry. I quickly parked the car, proceeded towards my friend who was waiting for me outside. “She’s shy. Give her a minute.” Her friend said.  Relief came over me, but yet still nervous.  My friend and I walked into the school and we find Kate. She was coming out from the gym. This was my time, to finally meet her. My heart beating, pounding…this is it!  “Kate, this is Jamar. Jamar this is Kate.”  Here she is in front of me. Long shiny black hair, the cute face I remember from a week ago.  My nerves have settled and all I can do is breathe and look into her eyes.   As I grin and say hi, she greets me with a big smile and a hug. I knew at that moment, she was the one for me.

Now…17 years later, I could not imagine my life being with anyone else.  I want to grow old with Kate.  She is my soul mate and my best friend.  We’ve learned a lot about each other these past 17 years. Through the good and the bad, we made it through…together,  and for I that, I am forever grateful.

Is that romantic or what???

Kate and Jamar are the very proud parents of two boys – Kameron and Khali . They say   “One thing we’ve learned as parents…we didn’t know this kind of love existed. To care, nurture, and love our children it’s the greatest gift we could ever have. Our children give us meaning and purpose.”  I couldn’t agree more!

*** Warning: you will see me in two of the images, you are not hallucinating:)

Yes, this is old sweaty me with the wonderful and talented Luis & Anne,  whom I photographed their wedding in 2008. You can also see me on the left cooing to a tiny little princess named Kira, the daugther of Krissy & Ray whom I photographed their wedding in 2011.

Kate Harris - Ahhhhh!!!! THANK YOU, INBAL!!! Beautiful and job well done! We will never forget our wedding day! Everything turned out just like I had imagined but more beautiful! Thank you for capturing our beautiful day, the details, and the special moments! It was great to see the boys, nieces, and nephews and to see them today; how much they have grown! It just shows how fast time surely does fly! It was also great to see Lola in the pictures as I know she will always and forever be in my heart. We’re so happy she was able to be there to witness our special day. Thank you for a great blog and I’m so happy that you are BACK and in full effect again! You go girl! xoReplyCancel
